Ran Jiang at Chime

Program Manager MBA Intern

Banker · International · Pivoter

Please briefly describe your background prior to Haas

Before Haas, I did a few pivots. I studied environmental science and transportation engineering (good at data analytics, modeling) and alway passionate about how tech improves productivity and efficiency. I started my first job in infrastructure investment analysis, did a lot of demand modeling and pricing to forecast project revenue. After that I did investment banking, focused on IPO and financial advisory for TMT and the advanced manufacturing sector. I also joined a VC investing in deep tech.

What industries and functions did you recruit for and why?

Tech Strategy, Ops, Corp Dev, Finance. I have the most transferable skills for these roles.

Briefly describe how you approached recruiting. Anything worked particularly well for you?

  1. Networking to understand company and role.

  2. Do your homework before the interview - for example, before my interview, I download the app, play around with the product, talk with the people in that company to understand culture, and etc.

Briefly introduce your internship company and your team

I interned in the Operation and Member Experience Department in Chime as a Program Manager. The team is under the COO umbrella. My team is Member Experience, which is also called customer experience.

Briefly describe your summer project or job description

My project is to improve the tracking and reporting of our top-escalation agent teams, boosting efficiency and reducing risks. I cleaned up and categorized the workflows. Based on the analysis, I collaborated with a cross team to implement some workflow optimizations to enable data collection (tracking) and visualization (reporting).

Fun facts about the company

Fun facts: Chime has a Chime Hall every month, where the two co-founder share company goals, updates and do Q&A. Love the transparency and great energy there.

Thoughts / reflections on your internship

Reflections: passion is important! Finishing your work is not enough, you need to build trust and a good relationship within the team by being really active and vocal to have your team remember you during internships. People have high expectations to top MBAs.
