Breaking into tech is a process. These 6 steps are meant to be iterative, not one-time, and every one of them opens a deep dive here.

Find your role

Before anything else, spend time exploring what sectors and functions can be a good fit for you.

Have an early view by September, but keep iterating and validating.

Prepare your resume

Complete different versions of your resume that cater to the different roles you plan to search for.

First version ready for submission ideally by mid-September (if targeting big tech).

Search for openings & manage applications

Identify job openings, apply to them, and understand what your pipeline looks like.

Most roles are posted throughout October to March.

Prepare for interviews and case questions

Prepare for different parts and formats of interviews.

Start after your first batch of job applications are submitted.

Compare and choose from offers

An ideal situation to be in! Collect information to help you make a decision.

The period of 2–4 weeks after you receive your first offer.

Stay up-to-date with the tech industry

A never-ending journey to learn about what's happening in tech.

Always important, but not urgent.

(03)Note on timelines

Internship recruiting timelines differ by company type. Big Tech starts earlier (fall); mid-size companies open applications in January–February; startups are case-by-case and more dependent on networking. CMG's offer timeline database is a great reference for how wide the spread can be.
